Our Story
It was the summer of 1965. The Beach Boys had just released their new album, “Summer Days (And Summer Nights!!),” and the Schultz family was headed out to the North Fork of Long Island, ready for a week of fun in the sun. 10 year-old Suzanne and 6 year-old Diane sat in the backseat of their parents blue Chevy Impala. The air was hot and the seats were sticky, but the summer ahead was full of promise. Unbeknownst to the girls, this first summer was the just the start of the North Fork carving out a special place in their hearts.
Suzanne and Diane spent that summer and many more at Sage’s cottages in Southold; fishing for snappers off the dock by what is now the Brick Cove Marina, cooling off in the Peconic Bay, collecting seashells in the morning and stringing them together in the golden hours of the late afternoon, sunkissed and exhausted from a day on the shore. An ice cream cone or round of mini golf was a special treat, but most evenings were spent playing card games, sitting around the campfire and spending time together, laughing and sharing stories, watching the twinkling lights on Shelter Island and gazing at the stars.
As Suzanne and Diane grew up and started their own families, life got busy; but they both longed to share these kinds of experiences with their own children and grandchildren. They often took day trips and spent long weekends on the North Fork, exploring some of their old favorite spots and discovering new ones. Over the years, they saw things come and go, but the spirit of the North Fork always remained the same. Looking to make some more permanent memories, starting in 2011, the sisters and their husbands bought homes within walking distance of one another in the beautiful Founders Landing neighborhood. Suzanne and Rich, Diane and Joe, and Suzanne & Rich’s son, Rick, and his wife Breanne, are thrilled to have a little piece of heaven to share with family and friends.
And that’s how North Fork Stay was born. We know that the little moments are the ones that make the big memories. Come stay with us, explore the beautiful North Fork, spend time with family and friends, collect shells, gaze at the stars, pick berries, dip your toes in the bay, toast to life and make some memories.
